We believe in maintaining the integrity of the production with a focus on creating an environment that's universally welcoming. Accessible performances support an atmosphere where each child can react naturally, and implement their own strategies if overwhelmed (i.e. headphones).
CDP Kids endeavours to program Auslan Interpreted and Audio Described performances of our productions where possible. Please refer to the individual show pages for dates.
Relaxed performances welcome children with disability and sensory and learning challenges to the theatre. We leave the house lights on (dimmed), the auditorium doors stay open, and a designated "chill out space" is created for audience members who feel overwhelmed, to take a break before returning to the show. The atmosphere is non-judgmental and we embrace noisy enthusiasm. Audience members can also bring their headphones to reduce noise.
If a child is sight impaired, we'd love to arrange a tactile tour of some elements of the set, costumes or props before the production starts. Please get in touch before booking to see if the schedule allows info@cdp.com.au
We've developed visual stories for each of our productions to help familiarise audience members with the story-line, characters and venue before coming to the show. You can access them from the teachers tab on the individual production pages.
